The Plastics may have worn pink on wednesdays, but the Cleveland Cavaliers and Lebron James wear coordinated Thom Browne Suits before the NBA finals. If that’s not some fashionable team spirit, we don’t know what is.
Last week, the Cavs and star forward Lebron turned up for their first game against the Golden State Warriors in a series of coordinated, tailored and seriously stylish suits. Think of their pre-game ritual like a red carpet but for athletic fanfare.
Even better: while many of the team members, including Khloe Kardashian’s paramour Tristan Thompson opted for sleek and stylish suiting with cropped pants that revealed the coolest sneakers, the flyest lace ups and some serious sock game, 33-year-old James took things to the next level by wearing cropped shorts. James’ look was #fashion in every sense — from his killer accessory game that involved polka dotted socks, a major alligator man bag and major shades, he would have looked as fabulous walking down a runway as he did walking into the NBA championships.
This isn’t the first time that the team wore matching suits either. In April Tristan Thompson, Lebron James and JR Smith all turned up to play the Indiana Pacers in matching tailored Thom Browne sportswear. According the New York Times, this team-building practice was started by former teammate Dwayne Wade who was recently traded to the Miami Heat.
On the decision to wear matching suits as a pre-game tradition, Lebron told the Times, “We have the same outfit on every night when we warm up. Dressing the same isn’t special. Being in a designed suit by a master craftsman is truly special.”
It’s official: the NBA will be where we scout all of the next major menswear trends.
